Official Fireside Launch of The Zion Story

September 26, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm CDT

The Zion Story Logo features an open book with sun rays extending upward from the pages. The book is sitting on a sheet of pure gold.

The Zion Story, a historical preservation project of the Independence Missouri Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is finally ready to launch!

The purpose of The Zion Story is to collect and archive personal histories, photographs, documents, oral histories and even video histories of members of the Independence Stake so that future historians will be able to answer the question, “How did we get from the Extermination Order to the New Jerusalem?”

The Zion Story Steering Committee has put together an evening you won’t soon forget where they will introduce this project, share some of the stories of those who have been inspired to move to this region, and inspire you with a slide show set to an original arrangement of Aaron Shust’s song, “Zion” which will be performed by several Polynesian members of the Independence Stake.

Attendees will have the opportunity to fill out a brief survey to indicate how they would like to assist with this project as well as what kind of help they need to put together their own “Coming to Zion” or “Living in Zion” story for The Zion Story archives.

The Zion Story currently has a partnership with the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence for the purpose of recording and archiving oral histories as part of the Center’s “Tell Me A Story” oral history project. Those stories created specifically for The Zion Story will be archived both at The Zion Story Archive and also online at the Midwest Genealogy Center’s website in a special subset of the “Tell Me A Story” oral history collection called “Coming Home to Zion.”
