👉 Website Launch: Walk With Me

This marks the beginning of something meaningful.

With the launch of this website, I’m opening a space for connection, reflection, and growth—where we can walk through life’s moments together and recognize the ways God is at work in our everyday lives.

Here you’ll find opportunities to learn, grow, and explore your own story, whether through teaching, mentorship, or shared experiences.

If you’ve found your way here, I’m truly grateful.

This is just the beginning.

With love,
Cheri

Nauvoo Women’s Conference — April 2019

View of the Nauvoo Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints against a blue sky with white clouds.

The Nauvoo Women’s Conference is a gathering of Latter-day Saint women for the purpose of connection, learning, spiritual strengthening, and fun. Attendees gather for several days to attend workshops, visit historic sites, and spend time together.

Cheri Battrick and Anne Tezon Spry will be presenting at the 2019 conference on the subject of “Personal Memoir Made Easy.” Together they will be sharing some of the tips and tricks which have made their Memoir Making Kits so successful. Attendees will have the opportunity to do some in-class writing based on random writing prompts taken from the kits.

Pioneer History of Mary Jane Champlin and Stewart Dickson

Historical photo of Latter-day Saint pioneers Mary Jane Champlin and her husband, Stewart Dickson on their wedding day. Mary Jane is wearing a calico pioneer dress typical of the day and her husband is dressed in a dark suitcoat, pants, shirt and tie. The photograph is in sepia tones.

Cheri Battrick, who will be serving as the 2023-24 Historian for the Port St. Louis Camp of Daughters of Utah Pioneers, is presenting the pioneer history of her 3rd great-grandparents at the May 2023 camp meeting.

Mary Jane Champlin lived at Hawn’s Mill and survived the massacre there on October 30, 1838 along with the rest of her family. She was eight years old at the time. The Champlin’s story of survival is equaled by the survival story of Mary Jane’s future husband, Stewart Dickson.

Stewart, though living at Far West as a young boy with his family in 1838, was innocently sent to Hawn’s Mill on the fateful day of the massacre by his parents in the company of an elderly neighbor to have some grain ground at the mill.

The stories of these two youth show the hand of the Lord in preserving some of those who were doing their best to follow the counsel of their prophet, Joseph Smith Jr., in gathering to Missouri for the purpose of establishing Zion. The trials which prevented them from reaching that goal served to test them and try them. Mary Jane learned the importance of obedience which unfortunately was not the case with her future husband who later abandoned her, their family, and the Church.

This incredible story will cause you to look at the experiences of your own life differently, and hopefully inspire you to always remain faithful.

The Zion Story Fireside (Reprise)

The Zion Story Logo features an open book with sun rays extending upward from the pages. The book is sitting on a sheet of pure gold.

Back by popular demand, The Zion Story fireside which originally took place on September 26, 2021 will be repeated! If you missed the fireside launch, you won’t want to miss this! Bring your friends and family and prepare to be inspired.

The Zion Story is a historical preservation project of the Independence Missouri Stake and will help future historians answer the question of how we got from the Extermination Order to the New Jerusalem. The project assists members of the Independence Stake with preparing their oral or written histories and then preserves them along with applicable photographs, documents, and other materials of note which will help to tell the story. The stake is working in partnership with the Midwest Genealogy Center to prepare and archive oral histories as part of the Center’s “Tell Me A Story” program.

Come learn how to become involved and experience some of the stories and photos we have collected already!

Official Fireside Launch of The Zion Story

The Zion Story, a historical preservation project of the Independence Missouri Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is finally ready to launch!

The purpose of The Zion Story is to collect and archive personal histories, photographs, documents, oral histories and even video histories of members of the Independence Stake so that future historians will be able to answer the question, “How did we get from the Extermination Order to the New Jerusalem?”

The Zion Story Steering Committee has put together an evening you won’t soon forget where they will introduce this project, share some of the stories of those who have been inspired to move to this region, and inspire you with a slide show set to an original arrangement of Aaron Shust’s song, “Zion” which will be performed by several Polynesian members of the Independence Stake.

Attendees will have the opportunity to fill out a brief survey to indicate how they would like to assist with this project as well as what kind of help they need to put together their own “Coming to Zion” or “Living in Zion” story for The Zion Story archives.

The Zion Story currently has a partnership with the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence for the purpose of recording and archiving oral histories as part of the Center’s “Tell Me A Story” oral history project. Those stories created specifically for The Zion Story will be archived both at The Zion Story Archive and also online at the Midwest Genealogy Center’s website in a special subset of the “Tell Me A Story” oral history collection called “Coming Home to Zion.”
